Cardiff City and Met Korfball Club is #teamNCMH

We are excited to announce that NCMH will be the main sponsor of Cardiff City and Met Korfball Club for the 2017/18 season, which kicked off yesterday.

“We’re delighted to begin our new partnership with Cardiff and Met Korfball, and look forward to working with the club over the next twelve months to make the most of this opportunity,” said Professor Ian Jones, Director at NCMH.

The sponsorship will include NCMH being advertised on the home and away shirts for all matches and a banner promoting our research will be displayed during all home games.

“Korfball is an inclusive sport that encourages people to get active, meet new people and make new friends,” said Professor Jones. “We know these things can boost mental wellbeing and improve resilience, making Cardiff City and Met a great fit for NCMH.

“Through this partnership we’re planning to do more than just advertise our logo. We want to raise the profile of a great sport and encourage people to try something new, as well work with the club to combat the stigma around mental health, raise awareness of our research and encourage others to get involved.”

Commenting on the partnership, James Wilcox, chair of Cardiff City and Met Korfball Club, said: “We are thrilled to be working with NCMH and look forward to helping raise awareness of their potentially life-changing mental health research and empowering people to get involved.”

What is Korfball?

Korfball originated in the Netherlands, and is best thought of as a cross between netball and basketball. Each team has 8 players (4 women and 4 men), with half of the team allocated to ‘defense’ and the other half allocated to ‘attack’.

The aim of the game is to score ‘korfs’, the Dutch word for ‘basket’, and you score by getting a football-sized ball into a 3.5m high basket. You can’t run with the ball, so the use of space and movement away from your opponent is vital, making it a fast-paced game.

Korfball is played in over 60 countries around the world, with European and World Championships held every four years.
