Professor Peter Holmans
Principal Investigator
Professor Peter Holmans is Professor of Biostatistics and Genetic Epidemiology in the Cardiff University School of Medicine’s Institute of Psychological Medicine & Clinical Neurosciences, and heads the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Unit (BBU).
Peter obtained a BA in Mathematics from Cambridge University and an MSc in Statistics from Sheffield University before returning to Cambridge to do a PhD in Genetic Epidemiology.
Peter has published over 150 academic papers on the development of novel statistical methods and the application of those methods to large genetic studies of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, Alzheimer’s disease, major depression and ADHD.
Peter’s current research interests focus on testing for enrichment of various kinds of genetic signal (SNPs, CNVs, rare denovo mutations) in biological pathways, and whether such enriched pathways are shared between diseases.
