Dr Liz Forty

Dr Liz Forty is a lecturer in psychiatry and a senior member of Cardiff University’s Mood Disorders Research Group.

She qualified with a BA (Hons) in Psychology and Sociology in 2001 and went on to work as a Research Associate in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Birmingham. Here she was involved in research into the causes of unipolar depression. She commenced her PhD in Psychiatric Genetics in 2004, researching the clinical phenotype of unipolar and bipolar affective disorders. After being awarded her PhD in 2008 she continued her work on mood disorders as a post-doctoral researcher at Cardiff University.

Her main research interest is the clinical phenotype of unipolar and bipolar affective disorder and she has a particular interest in medical comorbidity in affective disorder. She was appointed Lecturer in Psychiatry at Cardiff University in 2013, where she began to further her interest in medical education and in particular the behavioural and social science aspects of the undergraduate medical curriculum.
